How to Set Up Lottery Tickets in Ascending Order

This article outlines how to flip your lottery ticket reading from descending to ascending order in PDI C-Store Essentials

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Understanding Ascending vs. Descending Order

  • Ascending Order: Tickets are sold starting from 1 and move upward

  • Descending Order: Tickets are sold starting from 100 and move downward

Note: PDI C-Store Essentials only supports ascending order

  • Stores using descending order must flip their tickets before recording readings

How to Flip Ticket Order

  • Let’s use Game #300 as an example:

    • If the ticket range is 100 to 1 and your current ticket is 80, follow these steps to flip it to ascending order

Step-by-Step Process

1. Record Current Ticket Info

  • Before flipping, write down the following for each game:

    • Current Ticket Number

    • Amount Sold

  • Use the formula below to calculate amount sold:

sqlCopyEditStart # - Current Ticket # × Ticket Value = Amount Sold

❇️ Example: If your pack starts at 100, and the current ticket is 80 with a $1 ticket value:

bashCopyEdit100 - 80 × $1 = $20 sold
  • Repeat this step for all active games

2. Flip the Tickets

  • Once you’ve recorded the ticket numbers and amounts sold:

    • Flip the tickets so they now start from ticket number 1

    • This means all future readings will be in ascending order

💡 Tip!: Be sure to do this after a shift close or after day close to avoid errors

How to Account for Tickets Sold Before the Flip

  • After flipping to ascending order, C-Store Essentials assumes the entire pack was sold in that direction

  • However, any tickets sold before the flip will not be reflected automatically

  • Using Game #300 again:

    • You sold 20 tickets before flipping the pack

    • Later, you sell out the entire pack and mark it as Sold Out

  • The system will record the full pack as sold, including those 20 tickets you already sold before the flip

  • This causes a $20 overstatement in sales, which can make your paperwork $20 short

How to Fix This

  • On the day the ticket is sold out:

    • Subtract the pre-flip amount manually from your scratch-off reading

    • In our example, subtract $20 from the total lottery sales to balance the report
