Understanding Key Terminology

Net vs. Gross Gallons

  • Gross Gallons: The amount of fuel you requested at the time of your order.

  • Net Gallons: The actual amount of fuel loaded into your tank.

❇️ Example: If you requested 5,000 gallons, but your tank only accepted 4,500 gallons, then:

  • 5,000 gallons = Gross

  • 4,500 gallons = Net

  • You are usually invoiced based on net gallons

What is a BOL (Bill of Lading)?

When a fuel delivery arrives, the driver provides a Bill of Lading (BOL), which includes:

  • BOL Number

  • Net and Gross Gallons for Each Gas Grade

💡 Tip!: The BOL slip does not contain cost information, as the driver does not know the price at the time of delivery
