How to Confirm and Set Ruby Console to GemCom

This article explains how to check whether your Ruby Console is using GemCom or RubyLink and how to request a change if needed

Note: These steps apply only to the old Ruby SuperSystem


Step-by-Step Process

  1. Access the Sales Screen

  • Press Exit until [SALES] appears on the screen

2. Navigate to Maintenance

  • Use the [Ticket Print/Right Arrow] to move to [MAINTENANCE]

  • Press ENTER

  • Enter your ID and Password (Default: ID = 1, Password = 123).

3. Find the File Information Section

  • Press ENTER to view 1. VERSION INFORMATION

  • Use the [Ticket Print/Right Arrow] to navigate to 12. FILE INFORMATION

  • Press ENTER

4. Check if GemCom or RubyLink is in Use

  • Continue pressing the [Ticket Print/Right Arrow] until you see:

    CopyEditgcomm.ldm
  • Look at the file size on the right:

    • If the file size is ~180K, you are using Ruby Link

    • If the file size is ~192.5K, you are using GemCom

5. Confirm CITGO Software (if applicable)

  • If the store is using CITGO software (CITPAK), you will see either "Ruby Link" or "GemCom" displayed

6. Request a Change (if necessary)

  • If the system is set to Ruby Link, you need to call Verifone Help Desk at 1-800-837-4366 to request a change to GemCom

Why is it important to use GemCom?

  • GemCom is required for Back Office software integrations and data communication.

  • If the console is set to Ruby Link, some integrations may not work correctly.

What if I don’t see “gcomm.ldm” under File Information?

  • Try exiting and repeating the steps carefully.

What happens if I don’t change Ruby Link to GemCom?
