Complete Network Connection Setup Guide

This article provides a detailed guide to setup and troubleshoots network connection issues.

System Selection Guide

Identify your network router/system before proceeding:

  • Cybera

  • Mako

  • Paysafe

  • Acumera

  • Fortinet/Hughes

Register Type:

  • Passport - Requires network drive mapping to XML Gateway

  • Verifone - Uses web-based Petroleum Control Center


Setting Up New Computers (All Systems)

These steps apply to all systems. Follow these first, then proceed to your router and register specific configuration.

Step 1: Access Network Connection Settings

Choose one of these methods:

Method A:

  1. Press Win + R on your keyboard

  2. Type ncpa.cpl and press Enter

Method B:

  1. Click the Windows icon

  2. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced network settings

  3. Select "Change adapter options"

Step 2: Verify Ethernet Connection

  1. Locate the Ethernet connection in the Network Connections window

  2. Check the connection status:

    • Unplugged: Verify the Ethernet cable is securely connected at both ends (BackOffice PC and Router LAN port)

    • Disabled: Right-click the connection and select "Enable"

    • Unidentified Network: Proceed to system-specific configuration


Router-Specific Configuration

Step 3: IP configuration

Select the below drop down icons to view detailed descriptions.

Cybera Configuration

IP Configuration:

  1. Right-click on the Ethernet connection and select "Properties"

  2. Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties"

  3. Select "Use the following IP address" and enter:

    • IP address: 10.96.10.2

    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    • Default gateway: 10.96.10.1

    • Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8

    • Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4

  4. Click "OK" in both windows

Route Commands

  1. Press Win + R, type CMD, press Ctrl + Shift + Enter

  2. Run the commands for your register type:

For Passport:

route -p add 10.5.48.2 mask 255.255.255.0 10.96.10.1 route -p add 10.5.48.2 mask 255.255.255.255 10.96.10.1

For Verifone:

route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.0 10.96.10.1 route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.255 10.96.10.1

Mako Configuration

IP Configuration

  1. Right-click on the Ethernet connection and select "Properties"

  2. Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties"

  3. Select "Use the following IP address" and enter:

For Passport:

  • IP address: 192.168.13.2

  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.224

  • Default gateway: 192.168.13.1

  • Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.13.1

  • Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4

For Verifone:

  • IP address: 192.168.13.2

  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.224

  • Default gateway: 192.168.13.1

  • Preferred DNS Server: 66.82.4.8

  • Alternate DNS Server: 66.82.4.12

  1. Click "OK" in both windows

Route Commands

  1. Press Win + R, type CMD, press Ctrl + Shift + Enter

  2. Run the commands for your register type:

For Passport:

route -p add 10.5.48.2 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.13.1 route -p add 10.5.48.2 mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.13.1

For Verifone:

route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.13.1 route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.13.1

Paysafe Configuration

Determine Your IP Type

  1. Press Win + R, type cmd, press Enter

  2. Type ipconfig and press Enter

  3. Check your IPv4 Address:

    • If it's 192.168.41.163, 192.168.40.153, or 192.168.44.192 → You have Dynamic IP

    • Otherwise → You need Static IP

Option A: Static IP Configuration

For Passport:

  • IP address: 10.5.48.15

  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.192

  • Default gateway: 10.5.48.1

  • DNS Servers: Leave both blank

For Verifone:

  • IP address: 192.168.31.100

  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

  • Default gateway: 192.168.31.100

  • DNS Servers: Leave both blank

Route Commands for Static IP:

Passport (Static): No routing required
Verifone (Static):

route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.13.1 route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.13.1

Option B: Dynamic IP Configuration

If you have dynamic IP, keep "Obtain an IP address automatically" selected.

Route Commands for Dynamic IP:

  1. Note your Default Gateway from ipconfig

  2. Replace x.x.x.x below with your Default Gateway (e.g., 192.168.40.1, 192.168.41.1, or 192.168.44.1)

For Passport:

route -p add 10.5.48.2 mask 255.255.255.0 x.x.x.x route -p add 10.5.48.2 mask 255.255.255.255 x.x.x.x

For Verifone:

route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.0 x.x.x.x route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.255 x.x.x.x

Acumera Configuration

Important: 99% of Acumera setups do NOT require direct connection to the Acumera device.

Step 1: Identify Your Setup

  1. Press Win + R, type cmd, press Enter

  2. Type ipconfig and press Enter

  3. Check your IPv4 Address:

    • If it's 10.20.30.x: Rare direct connection setup

    • If it's standard range (192.168.x.x, 10.1.x.x, etc.): Common ISP setup

Step 2: Find Your Register IP (Common Setup Only)

  1. Download Advanced IP Scanner from Advanced IP Scanner - Download Free Network Scanner

  2. Run the scanner

  3. Look for MAC address starting with 00:41:AC

  4. Note the IP address shown for this device

This is your register's IP address.

Step 3: Request Acumera Back-Office Sharing

If you cannot access your register after finding the IP:

Contact Acumera:

  • Phone: 512-687-7401

  • Provide: Your location address and BackOffice IPv4 address

  • Request: Enable back-office sharing and WAN forwarding

Note for Verifone users: Acumera uses a "Link App" for configuration. If it doesn't work, request escalation to Tier 2 for a "Traffic Watch."

Step 4: Use Your Register IP

  • For Passport: Use the discovered IP in network drive mapping (Step 5)

  • For Verifone: Use the discovered IP in Config Client URL (Step 6)

Fortinet Configuration

CRITICAL: You must contact Fortinet/Hughes Helpdesk BEFORE starting setup to obtain:

  • IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway

  • Preferred and Alternate DNS Servers

  • Correct LAN port number

  • XML Gateway IP or Verifone Petroleum site IP

Fortinet/Hughes Helpdesk: Contact your provider for configuration details

IP Configuration

  1. Right-click on the Ethernet connection and select "Properties"

  2. Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties"

  3. Enter the details provided by Fortinet/Hughes:

    • IP address: [Provided by Fortinet/Hughes]

    • Subnet mask: [Provided by Fortinet/Hughes]

    • Default gateway: [Provided by Fortinet/Hughes]

    • Preferred DNS Server: [Provided by Fortinet/Hughes]

    • Alternate DNS Server: [Provided by Fortinet/Hughes]

  4. Click "OK" in both windows

Route Commands

  1. Press Win + R, type CMD, press Ctrl + Shift + Enter

  2. Replace x.x.x.x with your Default Gateway (from above)

For Passport:

route -p add 10.5.48.2 mask 255.255.255.0 x.x.x.x route -p add 10.5.48.2 mask 255.255.255.255 x.x.x.x

For Verifone:

route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.0 x.x.x.x route -p add 192.168.31.11 mask 255.255.255.255 x.x.x.x

Note: Use the Verifone IP provided by Fortinet/Hughes if different from 192.168.31.11


Register-Specific Final Steps

Step 4: Final Steps

Select the below drop down icons to view detailed descriptions.

For Passport Registers: Map Network Drive

  1. Open File Explorer

  2. Right-click on "This PC" and select "Map network drive"

  3. Configure the mapping:

    • Drive letter: Z

    • Folder path: Enter based on your system:

      • Cybera, Mako, Paysafe, Fortinet: \\10.5.48.2\XMLGateway\

      • Acumera: \\[IP-FROM-SCANNER]\XMLGateway\ (use IP found in scanner)

      • Acumera (Direct 10.20.30.x): \\10.20.30.1\XMLGateway\

  4. When prompted, enter credentials:

    • Username: BackOffice (capital B and O)

    • Password: BackOffice (capital B and O)

  5. Click "OK"

  6. The network drive should appear under "This PC"

Success: Your BackOffice computer can now communicate with your Passport register.

For Verifone Registers: Access Config Client

  1. Open your web browser (Google Chrome recommended)

  2. Enter the URL based on your system:

Cybera, Mako:

https://192.168.31.11/ConfigClient.html

Paysafe (Static IP):

https://192.168.31.11/ConfigClient.html

Acumera (Common Setup):

https://[IP-FROM-SCANNER]/ConfigClient.html

Replace [IP-FROM-SCANNER] with the IP you found

Acumera (Direct 10.20.30.x):

https://10.20.30.1/ConfigClient.html

Fortinet:

https://192.168.31.11/ConfigClient.html

Or use the Verifone IP provided by Fortinet/Hughes

  1. Press Enter

  2. If you see a security warning, click "Advanced" and proceed (this is normal for internal addresses)

  3. The Verifone Petroleum Control Center should load

Success: You can now access and manage your Verifone register.


Troubleshooting Existing Computers (All Systems)

Power Outage Reset

Problem: Power outage reset your IP configuration

Solution:

  1. Reconfigure your IP settings using the values from Router-Specific Configuration

  2. Re-run the route commands for your system and register type

  3. For Passport: Remap the network drive

  4. For Verifone: Test Config Client access

Ethernet Cable Issues

Disconnected Cable:

  • Unplug from both ends

  • Reconnect securely to BackOffice PC and Router

Damaged Cable:

  • Replace with a new Ethernet cable

Disabled Ethernet Connection

  1. Press Win + R, type ncpa.cpl, press Enter

  2. If connection shows "Disabled", right-click and select "Enable"

Orange Light on Router Port

Solution: Contact your router provider's helpdesk:

  • Cybera: Cybera Helpdesk, (866) 429-2372

  • Mako: Mako Helpdesk, +1 800 851-4691, option 1

  • Paysafe: Paysafe Helpdesk, (859) 389-8700

  • Acumera: Acumera Helpdesk, (512) 687-7401

  • Fortinet: Fortinet/Hughes Support, (800) 788-6000


Router/Register-Specific Troubleshooting

Acumera: Cannot Find Device in IP Scanner

Solution:

  1. Verify computer is connected to internet

  2. Ensure you're scanning the correct network

  3. Check if router was recently replaced

  4. Contact Acumera if device MAC (00:41:AC) is not visible

Acumera: Tier 1 Configuration Not Working (Verifone)

Solution: Request Acumera to:

  • Escalate to Tier 2 support

  • Perform a "Traffic Watch"

  • Check configuration in "MG" outside of Link App

  • May take up to 24 hour

Paysafe: Unsure About IP Type

Check:

  1. Press Win + R, type ncpa.cpl, press Enter

  2. Right-click Ethernet → Properties → TCP/IPv4

  3. Check selected option:

    • "Obtain automatically" = Dynamic IP

    • "Use the following IP" = Static IP

Fortinet: Missing Configuration Details

Solution:

  1. Contact Fortinet/Hughes Helpdesk

  2. Request all configuration details (IP, subnet, gateway, DNS, port)

  3. Keep a Configuration Worksheet with these details for future reference

Passport: Network Drive Not Appearing

Solution:

  1. Verify Ethernet connection is enabled

  2. Confirm IP configuration is correct

  3. Verify route commands completed successfully

  4. Check credentials: BackOffice / BackOffice (capital B and O)

  5. Try remapping the drive

Verifone: Config Client Won't Load

Solution:

  1. Verify Ethernet connection is enabled

  2. Confirm IP configuration is correct

  3. Verify route commands completed successfully

  4. Try different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)

  5. Clear browser cache and cookies

  6. Check if using correct IP address for your system
